Diliberto drew inspiration from the common use of an 'x' sign in architecture to indicate where to place, drill, or reach. He saw the aesthetic potential in this simple sign and decided to incorporate it into his design. The result is a radiator that doesn't look like a traditional radiator and allows the wall behind it to be visible. This unique design approach allows Raw to blend into its surroundings while still being a functional piece of design.
Raw is a family of radiators built for Brem, constructed using curved and welded steel pipes in a boxy shape with a diagonal cross in the center. The design aims to be iconic, visually neutral, and reminiscent of construction structures, scaffolding, and shelving units. It is available in different elements and sizes, in both vertical and horizontal layouts. Thanks to its framework structure, any single unit can also function as a heated towel rail.
The design process involved creating a modular system with two standard elements in each corner, one for squares and one for rectangles. However, due to production difficulties and costs, this solution was discarded. Despite this, the production process developed by the company allows for maximum flexibility for custom projects. The radiators are available in both hydraulic and electric versions, with pipes of 25 mm diameter.
Raw's design offers a unique user experience. The final result can be significantly affected by the choice of the same element repeated, or by adding the rhythm and visual movement of different shapes. Towels can be placed anywhere along the framework structure, adding to the design's functionality. The design is also available in more than 50 combinations, offering users a wide range of choices to suit their specific needs and preferences.
The design project started in December 2017 in Osio Sotto, Italy, and was exhibited at Eurobagno 2018, Salone del Mobile. Diliberto's design research was focused on creating an object that looked like something missing. The boxy shape together with the two crossing pipes achieved this goal, resulting in a three-dimensional product that is visually empty and lightweight, with a neutral aesthetic. The design pays homage to the company’s pay off: Radiators for architecture, by being easy to place in a wide range of environments and styles, depending on the combinations and finishes.
Raw's unique design and functionality have earned it the prestigious Golden A' Bathroom Furniture and Sanitary Ware Design Award in 2019. The award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics. Raw is indeed a testament to Diliberto's innovative design approach and his ability to redefine traditional concepts.
